A realistic career that I could hold after getting my education could be an Intermediate Analyst, Treasury Accountant at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce or CIBC for short. For this position, CIBC is looking for someone who has a university degree in Economics, Finance, Commerce or Accounting. In addition, having a professional qualification such as a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) would also be an asset. In relation to education CIBC is also looking for someone with at least three years of related accounting experience as well as someone who has a working knowledge for cash instruments and derivatives.
One education pathway I can take to reach this goal is taking the Business program at McMaster University and getting a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After first year, I’ll have the ability to choose an “area of focus” and decide which area of business I would like to focus on the most or rather major in. For this particular job, I need experience in finance and accounting so I would most likely major in one of these areas and maybe have a minor in the other area as well. At McMaster, courses are accredited by CPA Ontario and they also offer a CPA accredited graduate diploma where graduates will hold advanced standings towards the CPA designation. This is helpful because instead of having to retake the class again for my CPA designation they will already have records showing that I have completed the class saving myself money and time. Along with this, McMaster is also accredited by AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Only 5% of the 13,000 business schools in the world have this accreditation as it represents a standard of excellence in business education. By having this accreditation on my diploma it could make me stand out to my future employers. McMaster also offers a Commerce Internship Program which is the largest in Ontario. This internship program is 12-16 months of paid work experience with an average salary of $39,834 where students have the opportunity to work with top employers and apply classroom knowledge while gaining beneficial career skills. After graduating from university and obtaining my undergraduate degree I could join the CPA Professional Education Program and start the journey to become a CPA. The CPA Professional Education Program is a program that takes two years to complete on a part-time basis as you work at relevant employment throughout. After acquiring my degree and my CPA designation I feel I would have the necessary skills and education to be an Intermediate Analyst, Treasury Accountant at CIBC. Financial Analyst - Bell Canda |

Another realistic career that I could hold after getting my education is a Financial Analyst with Bell Canada. The team at Bell is looking for a motivated Finance Manager, with proven finance and leadership skills, in addition they are looking for someone who desires to work closely with the finance and customer operations business leadership teams. Some educational requirements they are looking for are, a university degree in finance, business or economics as well as an MBA or CMA. Also, a minimum of five years experience in a financial planning environment is required along with a minimum of 2-3 years experience in a financial role.
One education pathway I can take to reach this career could be taking the Accounting and Financial Management program at Waterloo. This program is a one-of-a-kind program in Canada and it also has an option for co-op. Co-op is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience that employers are looking for and want. By attending Waterloo and taking co-op I can build the experience that I’ll need for my future jobs, like a financial analyst. The Accounting and Financial Management program is about accounting, finance and business and how they interrelate. It covers aspects of economics with a practical and professional focus. Some of the courses I could be taking in this class are, Introduction to Global Financial Markets, Corporate Finance, Accounting, Assurance and the Law. Also to be a financial analyst at Bell, it’s recommended to have an MBA (Masters of Business Administration). An MBA program usually takes around 3/4 years to complete and it is a great way to gain hands-on experience with companies while also expanding your knowledge. It can be taken as a co-op program or without but the most popular is a co-op version. As a co-op student you can receive career development assistance, one-on-one coaching as well as skill development programs. I could take an MBA program at any school that offers one, but it could be easier to get into Waterloo’s if that’s where I was going to school for my degree. After getting my degree from university I think I could go right into the workforce, but to specifically be a Financial Analyst at Bell Canada, I would have to continue my schooling and furthermore get a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). After finishing an MBA program I feel like I would have enough education and experience to get the job at Bell. |
