I believe that I am type cast as the quiet and shy person. Throughout my life I’ve always been shy and quiet but loud and outgoing around the people I’m comfortable with. Grade 10 was a rough year in my life and since then I think people have seen me as even more shy than before. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety during this year and it really affected my life for a couple of years. Now, I stay to myself and being quiet helps me deal with my anxiety. Even though some people in my life may perceive me as being talkative or outgoing, I still believe most people would view me as quiet and maybe reserved person. Other additional roles that I would like to be type cast as would be outgoing (sometimes), mature, smart and friendly. Sometimes, it would be nice to be type cast as an outgoing person because I’ve been type cast as shy and quiet so long. I’ve always wanted to be that outgoing, bubbly person but it’s not who I am even though I wish it could be. As well, I would like to be viewed as mature because I see myself as someone who is mature. I think I do because of how much I have grown as a person due to the obstacles that have came into my life. In addition, I would want to be type cast as friendly. I think that a lot of people who first see me might think that I’m rude or look “bitchy” so it would be nice to be seen as someone different from that perspective.

After attending the University fair, I have started to really consider my post-secondary education. Knowing that this year counts towards my ability to getting into a post-secondary school really scares me. Going to the university fair and having to start really picturing my future, I know I need to step up my work in school going forward. I gathered a lot of books from the fair from different schools but the schools that stood out to me the most were Lakehead, McMaster and Windsor. I'm not sure if these schools stood out to me the most because of their programs or just because they had a good representative speaking to me but despite this they still have good qualities. I learned from the Lakehead representative that they have been accredited by the "Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business" meaning that the school guarantees a challenging and relevant curriculum, delivered by highly-qualified faculty and only about 5% of the 13,000 business schools worldwide have been accredited. This accreditation interested me because it is globally-recognized and I can get a stamp on my diploma for this as well. After looking in a few more books I realized that McMaster also has been accredited by the AACSB and I also learned that they offer a paid internship program (I'm not sure if other schools do this yet). In my top three schools I learned that some of the classes you take in university can count toward your CPA designation and also that your paid internship at McMaster can count towards the five year experience you need to become a CPA. This is beneficial because it is pointless to take another class again when I am becoming a CPA when I already paid for it one time around. Some things that interested me about other schools were that Western has a program to achieve your CPA designation but it is a competitive program to get into if you didn't complete your four years of school there. Also some schools have options to learn abroad which is interesting as well. I think to make a decision on my school I need to consider the location and size of my school as well as the programs they offer for business.
After watching King’s video, “I’m Not the Indian You Had In Mind”, I learned that some of the stereotypes that face Canada’s indigenous population today are being a warrior, being dirty, yelling or chanting and beating on drums. King’s perspective and style can help people gain an awareness of the stereotypes for the purpose of eliminating them in a number of ways. In the beginning of the video, King and the other actors list the Indians we “had in mind” and while doing this displayed a video of movies, cartoons and even books stereotyping indigenous people. This allows people to realize that all of their ideas of Indians or rather indigenous people come from made up fiction and voices of anyone but the indigenous people themselves. The video then goes on to list the other types of Indians, the ones that didn’t come to our mind like the CEO’s and doctors. This is the rhetorical strategy, compare and contrast and King uses it to show the stereotypes against indigenous people to what indigenous people really are, normal humans. King then uses pathos to show the harmful ways we treat our earth, saying that it wasn’t the indigenous way to treat the planet like this. King displays how we treat the earth by he using sarcasm. He tells people not to get to “distressed” and it’s not as bad as it sounds, we were handed the earth like this and that's how we will hand it down again, as if we can’t and we shouldn't do anything to fix it and stop the pattern. In the end, he shows a statue of a typical Indian and says you can always go ask this busk you like so much, this Indian you idolize. This can help raise awareness to the stereotypes because King makes you realize that no one looks like that and therefore there is no one to ask, so why do we keep believing these stereotypes.
By talking with the grads in class I have learned a number of helpful things about the post-secondary experience. Not only have the grads talked about their educational experience at their post-secondary school but they have also talked about their financial and social experiences as well. For the most part, the grads have made post-secondary school look rather scary due to the educational side of things. From picking your classes to the actual work, everything seems rather complicated and difficult. Now that I’ve heard from the grads I’d rather pick my courses at the school with students or some type of advisors help rather than at home by myself, which is something I didn’t know you could do. Also the whole ordeal about getting books, used or new, figuring out what to eat every night and also moving in, in general all seems like a lot. I still have a lot of questions on just what to expect from class work and assignments and chores from daily routines like making food or doing laundry but most of my questions don’t really have answers, it’s just something you have to experience for yourself. My perception of the post-secondary experience that I’m headed for is that I will have a lot more freedom in my life and going to school won’t feel like a burden as much because I will be learning about my interests everyday. I hope that my post-secondary experience is a much better experience than my high school one but I also hope that this new journey in my life will be a positive, eye-opening experience.
I choose to do the ads on cigarettes. The ads on cigarettes use rhetoric strategies like pathos, logos, ethos and narration. The ad uses pathos and logos by showing strong emotion filled photos as well as showing the truth behind smoking. By showing these photos, people begin to wonder why themselves would smoke if this is what it does. They also use narration to describe a story that occurred to someone who smokes. This allows people to have insight on someone's life who has been greatly affected by smoking and in turn this persuades people to stop therefore it doesn’t happen to them.
1. My profile picture on twitter is actually nothing. It’s just a black screen. I choose this because I don’t really take photos of myself and don’t have a recent one, as well I didn’t like it when I would make a tweet I could see it on my feed and see my own photo.
2. The nature of my status updates or tweets are mostly expressing feelings or humor and sometimes they include some politics. Technically, all of those are retweets of other people saying those things because I don’t really tweet often. Sometimes I make drafts of tweets but usually don’t post them because they contain my feelings or something that I think would bother people if I even tweeted. 3. No one really posts on my twitter page, that’s something you can’t really do but sometimes I reply to people's tweets or vise versa. Usually, if I do it’s something sarcastic or replying to someone about missing them. 4. My about me or description on twitter just has my phone number in it. I put it on there for people to see I guess, I know I have tried to find people’s phone numbers before on social media. My account is private but I believe you can still see the description no matter what. I might take it out now that I’m thinking about it. 5. I don’t really include any quotes from well known people at all. Mostly other people's tweets or quotes that aren’t from well known people. 6. I don’t really post much photos. The last few photos or media rather that I posted were vines, another was a photo of myself and the next few were concert photos and these were posted in 2015. The next couple after that are screengrabs, then some memes and even the black and blue dress (or white and gold depending what you see). 7. My social media audience is mostly my peers from school. I have people from Toronto/Scarborough following me because that’s where I grew up but I also have people from Gravenhurst following me from attending GPS and GHS, as well I have Bracebridge followers and some Huntsville from going to school in St.Dominic and from just having friends in Bracebridge. I also have a few random accounts and some that are “ghost” accounts, that don’t have any followers following me from when my account wasn’t private. Some of the skills and knowledge that are essential for me and my success in this course are time management, planning and organizational skills as well as improving on my attitude and behaviour. As of now, I would say I’m the type of student who does just enough to get by in my courses. I tend to procrastinate on my projects and often give myself excuses for why I shouldn’t do them. These habits aren’t something that I’m proud of but are hard to shake especially when you are not in the right state of mind. The kind of student that I would like but also need to be is someone who can keep up with their studies and stay on top of their homework and projects. In order to become this student I need to work on not only the different aspects of my skills and habits but also my attitude toward school in general. By working on time management skills I can procrastinate less and actually generate more free time by doing so. By working on my project ahead of time, instead of the night before, I’ll have more free time later in the week, which will be helpful considering the other projects I could have received in the weeks time, now instead of two projects, I’ll only have one. Planning skills will allow me to develop the ability to start and finish projects when supposed to in addition to becoming more skilled at estimating how long a project or task will take to accomplish. Organizational skills are essential for me to become the kind of student I want to be because goals can’t be accomplished without the resources required to get the job done. Another thing that I need to improve on is my overall behaviour and attitude towards school. Having a negative attitude toward something will greatly affect the outcome of the situation and this is something that is happening in my life right now. By changing my attitude toward school or English class specifically, I can create more positive experiences and I will be more willing to try and succeed. By improving on these skills and behaviours I feel I could bridge the gap between the student I am now, and the student I want to be.
To be honest, my planning path for post-secondary hasn't started much because graduating high school has been the least of my worries these past two years. I never imagined my life to be how it is today but it's something I have come to live with and accept. If you asked me two years ago I would have told you exactly what I wanted to do with my life; go to York University for some type of business class but also a class in accounting and eventually become an accountant and/or own my own business. Now after attending a co-op with the Town of Gravenhurst and being lucky enough to work there for over 7 months I discovered that I had another interest other than being an accountant. I started talking to my boss about the Municipal Government and some courses you can take in post-secondary to get into that field of work but other than that I haven't looked any farther into it. For schools, I haven't looked at one and considering I am in my final year of high school it should probably be a bigger priority.
